When he was studying at the University of Delhi, his family went through a major loss in the family business due to which he had to leave his graduation and come back to Amritsar to help his family. Lakshay gained popularity after doing song covers and uploading them on social media. He has covered multiple songs such as ‘Tere Bina Zindagi’ by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar, ‘Mere Sohneya’ by Parampara Thakur and Sachet Tandon, ‘Uska Hi Bana’ by Arijit Singh, ‘Hum Mar Jayenge’ by Arijit Singh and Tulsi Kumar, ‘Duniyaa’ by Akhil and Dhvani Bhanushali, and more. I’ve never been into formal riyaaz. I’ve never really trained in music. I have a good ear and I’ve inherited that from my mom. I spend close to one hour recording every day and I keep singing during that time. That’s riyaaz for me. I’ve learnt music by listening to various kinds of music, including qawwalis, old film songs and more. His second single song ‘Kahin Nai Jaana’ was released on 27 September 2020; he also acted in the music video of the song, which gained more than 4 million views in one year on YouTube.
After releasing two songs, in an interview, he revealed that he never wanted to pursue singing as a career. He said,
I always knew I wanted to be a businessman because I had all the qualities that are required for it. Music is my heart. It’s always been a part of me and hence I never thought that I’d grow up to be a musician. I always knew my business would be my source of bread and butter, while music would be my passion and companion for life. He made his debut as a singer in Bollywood with the song ‘Mera Banega Tu’ from the 2022 film ‘Liger,’ starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday .

In an interview, on being asked how he manages to balance his business with his music and take time out to follow his hobby, he replied,
I believe my business has enabled me to value my music more. I feel whenever you have something in excess, you don’t value it as much. For instance, my business keeps me so occupied that I crave to hit the studio and record something. He does not believe in learning singing from a music teacher as it restricts the creativity and authenticity of the person. According to him, his greatest guru is the audience. In an interview, he said,
I believe that when you train only under one guru, you gradually start sounding like them or you pick up their style. I didn’t want to limit myself in that sense. However, I have an inclination towards light classical music and I would like to train in that under many learned musicians. I also feel the audience is your best guru. If they like your work, that means you’re on the right track. And if they don’t, it teaches or inspires you to work harder.” check sources Business Standard
