Some Lesser Known Facts About Kush Maini
Kush Maini was born in a family of race drivers as his father, Gautam Maini, a noted industrialist, was a race driver in his youth. His elder brother, Arjun Maini , is also a race driver.
His father made him play sports, cricket, football, basketball, swimming and many others before asking him to choose, but he always liked racing.
He was only 10 years old when he won his first race in the Indian National Championship.
After 5 years of racing in go-kart championships till 2015, he decided to race in other formats.
He later moved to the United Kingdom to learn from professional trainers and also lived in Switzerland for some time.
He started his single-driver racing career in 2016 with BVM Racing in the Italian F4 Championship. In 2017, he changed his team to Jenzer Motorsport and finished 8th in the season.
He signed with Lanan Racing in 2018 and moved to the British Formula 3 Championship, where he scored 8 podium finishes and ended 3rd in the season.
In 2019, he signed with M2 Competition and raced in the Formula Renault Eurocup.
He wanted to switch to R-ace GP in the same championship in 2020, but the first phase of COVID-19 forced him to Hitech Grand Prix in the British F3 series.
In 2021, he moved to the Mumbai Falcons in the F3 Asian Championship.
He switched to the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2022 for MP Motorsport.
He once said in a May 2022 interview that the best thing about being a race driver is that it teaches you discipline and gives more structure to life.
In November 2022, Maini signed a deal with Campos Racing for the 2023 F2 season.
In October 2023, Maini was announced to be joining the Alpine Academy, which he called as a “dream come true.“
In November 2023, he joined the Mahindra Racing Team as a reserve driver for Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
He signed with Invicta Racing in 2024 alongside reigning Formula 3 champion and McLaren junior Gabriel Bortoleto.
In September 2024, he failed to start his car on the opening lap of the Formula 2 race at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Race stewards later fined 10 seconds.
Alpine Racing named him as their test and development driver in January 2025.
In May 2025, he became the first Indian racing driver to win a F2 race at the Monaco Grand Prix, after starting from reverse grid pole.
