Growing up, he wanted to become a musician and attended a music school.
His first acting experience was in his high school play when he was cast as Hamlet. This experience helped him gain an interest in acting.
He has appeared in several films and TV shows including ā In Order of Disappearanceā (2014), āThe Fate of the Furiousā (2017), āThe Lion Guardā (2017),ā Three Wishes for Cinderellaā (2021), āThe Witcherā (2021), ā Cocaine Bearā (2023), and āRed Oneā (2024).

In an interview, he talked about how the rumours from the fans of the American TV show, āGame of Thronesā (2011ā2019) helped him get cast in the show.
He claimed that while visiting his chiropractor, an American newspaper asked him to confirm the rumours spread by the fans of him being cast as one of the characters, Tormund Giantsbane on the show.
After some time, his agent met the showās casting director, Nina Gold and showed him Kristofer Hivjuās photographs, who was preparing to audition for the Irish-Canadian TV show, āVikings.ā
Impressed by his photos, Kristopher was called for an audition and later, selected for the role.
To prepare for his role as Tormund Giantsbane, he would run into the woods and hit trees. He talked about his preparation in an interview and said,
Every season. I ran into the woods. I had a stick. I was hitting trees. I was screaming. Tormund is a powerful guy with a lot of energy. I needed space to get ready for him.ā
In March 2020, he took to Instagram to inform his fans that he was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was under isolation with his family.
He enjoys playing disc golf, a combination of frisbee and golf.
