Some Lesser Known Facts About Krishna Nagar
Krishna Nagar is an Indian para-badminton athlete who is known for winning the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. He is also ranked as number two in the world rankings of para-badminton men’s singles SH6 events.
Krishna was born in Jaipur, Rajasthan. When he was two years old, Krishna’s parents noticed that he was not growing according to his age and his height was different as compared to other children of his age. After consulting a doctor, they found out that Krishna was diagnosed with dwarfism which caused the deficiency in growth hormone.
Throughout his life, Krishna had been bullied by his schoolmates, which further demotivated him to do anything in life. Krishna would try ways to get taller like hanging and playing games which sparked his interest in sports.

During an interview, Krishna talked about his struggles and said-
People did make fun of me when I was in school. There were people who said I would not be able to do anything in life. I was affected by it too and tried various kinds of exercises and played different sports to increase my height, but nothing really helped.”
Krishna didn’t gain height from all the sports activities, however, he discovered his natural talent in sporting activities and he always performed well in sprints, jumps, and other games. Krishna came across para-badminton in 2017 when he reached college. He said-
After I reached college, I joined a stadium in Jaipur to play badminton for fun somewhere in 2017, and that is when I was introduced to para-badminton. The coach there explained to me how it works and how there is a category in para-badminton for people like me. There has been no looking back since.”
Krishna began competing professionally in 2018, and he won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games. He also earned a silver and bronze medal at the 2019 BWF Para-Badminton World Championships in Basel, Switzerland.

Krishna competed in the Dubai Para-Badminton International event in April 2020 and won two gold medals at the tournament.

After winning the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Krishna celebrated his victory by saying-
This is a dream come true. I want to thank my father, mother, uncle, auntie, God, my coaches. This is the first time that badminton has been added to the Paralympics and I hope that India will keep winning and doing their best at upcoming Games.”
Krishna’s father was present to see the match, which was being streamed at the stadium where Krishna used to train when he was in Jaipur. After Krishna’s victory, his father spoke to the media and said-
After several check-ups we were told by the doctors that there was some hormone deficiency in the pituitary gland and the success rate of the surgery was very low so we refused it. We were concerned and wanted to divert his mind from overthinking about his height. Krishna was good at volleyball and high jump as well but people with good height got the preference, so it was badminton that we chose.”
Krishna belongs to a lower-middle-class family and till 2019 they faced problems in arranging funds for Krishna’s equipment and to bear his travel expenses. However, after his win at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, his father believes that all the expenses have turned out to be a wise investment.

Krishna is appointed as the assistant conservator of forest in Rajasthan as an honourary position.
