Kiran Dubey was born in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, but later her family shifted to Dehradun.
Kiran Dubey is a follower of Osho, once in an interview she said when she was 14 years old her father introduced her to the teachings of Osho , and from then she started following him and his teachings.

Dubey is also a meditation facilitator and encourages people for meditation and other mindfulness techniques.
To pursue her higher studies she moved to Pune, Maharashtra.
Dubey once said her friends like to call her Smita not Kiran.
In 1994, she participated in the Miss Pune Beauty Pageant and grabbed the first runner-up position.
That competition boosted her confidence and she decided to pursue a career in modelling.

In 2001, she got her first break in the Sansaar serial as Malvika which was aired on Zee TV.

Once in an interview, she said she wanted to be a writer but destiny made her an actor.
She did cameo and supporting roles in many TV serials.

Kiran gave very iconic performances in famous TV serials like as Rajeshwari Suyash Mehra in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki (2000), as Karishma Virani Dey in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (2000), as Shivani Hinduja in Kkusum (2001), as Urvashi Tandon in Devi (2002), as Avni in Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat(200), and as Vibha in Suno… Harr Dil Kuch Kehtaa Hai (2006).

In 2009, Kiran took a break from her TV career and enrolled herself at the New York Film Academy to enhance her acting skills.
While studying at the New York Film Academy, she met with Hollywood film director John Henry Richardson. He was impressed by her acting skills and offered her a role in his upcoming TV series.
In 2013, during her visit to Mumbai, she did a show named Jet Set Go as an anchor.
In 2015, Kiran bagged her first Hollywood film name Where Is She Now? as an actor and as a co-producer too.

In 2017, Kiran and John Henry Richardson came together for another film Where Are We Know? which was the sequel to the film Where Is She Now?
While she was learning acting skills in New York, she used to visit India to meet her parents and did cameo roles in many serials like Milie, Special Squad, and Siddhant on different TV Channels
Dubey once said she is very selective about the work and she mostly wants to work on projects that show the power of a woman.
In an interview, she said she is a shopping freak, loves to spend time with her friends, and cooks for them. She also enjoys watching international films and beautifying waste (bottles, wood etc.) in her free time.
