Bolduan’s great-great-grandfather, Leon Emile Rousselle, came to the United States from Belgium in February 1912 followed by her great-great-grandmother, Louise Labhaye Rousselle, two months later.

Her great-great-grandfather came to the United States aboard the SS Kroonland, a ship that rescued some of the Titanic survivors.

Her mother received a nursing degree in 1971 from Mercy Hospital and met medical student Jeffrey Patrick Bolduan (Kate’s father) while working in the cardiac unit.
Her parents got married in Toledo on 5 January 1973, and they later moved to Guadalajara, Mexico.
According to Kate Bolduan, her grandmother was the first woman voter in her family.
After spending some years in Dearborn, Michigan, her parents settled in Goshen, Indiana, in 1981, and Syracuse, Indiana, later became their full-time home.
Kate Bolduan grew up in an apple orchard in Goshen, a small manufacturing town in the northern part of New York State, along with her sisters; Kate is the third of four girls.

While studying at George Washington University, Kate Bolduan was part of the women’s volleyball team and the student theatre organization. She was also a cheerleader and dancer.

Kate Bolduan edited her high school paper, performed onstage, and was named Goshen’s Junior Miss in 2000.
During her studies, she visited Madrid in Spain, where she learned to speak Spanish.
In 1994, her mother was charged with reckless homicide after her jet ski struck two little girls, killing a 9-year-old and injuring a 10-year-old. Kate was 11 years old at the time.
After graduating from college, Bolduan’s first job was as a general assignment reporter for WTVD-TV in Durham, North Carolina. She recorded a demo reel of herself reading news scripts from her days as an intern at WRC and sent the recording to more than 50 stations before she got the job at WTVD.
She later worked as a production assistant for NBC News and MSNBC in Washington D.C.
Before joining CNN in 2007, she worked at House & Garden magazine, Dateline NBC, and NBC Nightly News.
After she joined CNN in 2007, her first role was as a national correspondent for CNN Newsource during which she covered many notable events including the 2008 United States presidential election, the Minneapolis Bridge collapse, the O. J. Simpson armed robbery case, and the retiring NASA Space Shuttle fleet.
After she misreported the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare in June 2012, it was believed she would lose her job at CNN; however, she was soon made co-anchor with Wolf Blitzer and started co-anchoring the news broadcast The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.
In 2012, her mother, Nadine, faced a year in jail time for driving under the influence and crashing into another vehicle, causing head trauma and broken bones to the other driver.
Bolduan later moved to New York City, where she started anchoring the show New Day, a weekday morning television show on CNN, in June 2013.
In 2014, she made a television feature documentary titled Kate Bolduan’s Roots in which she discussed her ancestors’ roots.
In January 2015, Kate Bolduan started anchoring CNN’s new morning show, @This Hour, alongside John Berman. The show covered various news stories of the day. In February 2017, she became the sole host of the show after the name of the show was changed to At This Hour. The show was later removed from CNN’s lineup; however, it returned in April 2021.

Ahead of the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign, Bolduan started hosting State of America with Kate Bolduan, a CNN international programme for a global audience.
As part of the Champions for Change initiative during the Presidency of Barack Obama, she appeared in various CNN series including The Story Behind Farm Aid and Every Mother Counts.

Ahead of the 2020 US Presidential election, she produced the audio-only podcast The Forecast Fest alongside John Avlon and Harry Enten.
In 2022, she became the anchor of “5 Things,” a show about the top five stories of the day. The show was made available for streaming audiences on CNN Max, the live-streamed news service available on Max.

She often works as a freelance presenter and speaker.
Bolduan is known for her activities related to children’s welfare the protection of mothers and newborns and their medical well-being.
According to Kate, before giving birth to her second child, she was a coffee addict. After giving birth to her second child, she became a decaf coffee person.
In an interview, she revealed that she once completely leaked through her shirt on-camera as she forgot her breast pads that day; she had to get off camera quickly.
Bolduan is very specific about her hair and makeup; she likes her hair extremely straight.
She doesn’t consider herself good at fashion. She says that she has worn a Michael Kors red dress in almost every press photo. Kate says that she does all of her own wardrobe and can go anywhere in a black blazer and T-shirt.
On 18 August 2016, Kate broke down while sharing the story of a Syrian boy named Omran Daqneesh whose home was devastated by an airstrike in Syria.
She considers veteran WRC reporter Pat Collins one of her biggest supporters. Collins worked with her while she was a college intern at the station in 2005.
