Some Lesser Known Facts About Kamlesh Paswan
Kamlesh Paswan grew up in a family with a political background.
His father, Om Prakash Paswan, was elected as MLA from the Maniram assembly constituency in 1989, 1991, and 1993.
Om Prakash was killed in 1996 while addressing a public function. At that time, Kamlesh Paswan was studying at a college in Gorakhpur, and he was not old enough to contest an election.

His mother, Subhawati Devi, became the first woman MLA from Bansgaon constituency in Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Samajwadi Party (SP) in 1996.
After his fatherās assassination, his uncle Chandresh Paswan was elected as MLA from the Maniram constituency on the ticket of the Samajwadi Party.
Kamlesh Paswan served as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the Maniram constituency representing the Samajwadi Party from 2002 to 2007.
He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2009 and was elected as a member of the 15th Lok Sabha from the Bansgaon constituency in the same year.

On 31 August 2009, Kamlesh Paswan was appointed as a Member of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.
In October 2013, he claimed that his life was under threat from āpolitical rivals and mafiaā in the region. Reportedly, he had requested the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police to provide him with security cover. Paswan stated in a media conversation that he requested security from the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav .
In 2014, Kamlesh Paswan was elected as a member of the 16th Lok Sabha.

Kamlesh Paswan served as a Member of the Committee on Petitions from 1 September 2014 to 25 May 2019.
From 25 March 2015 to 25 May 2019, he served as a Member of the Standing Committee on Commerce and a Member of the Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution.
Kamlesh Paswan served as a Member of the Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from 28 July 2016 to 25 May 2019. During the same period, he served as a Member of the Consultative Committee in the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
His younger brother, Vimlesh Paswan, was elected as an MLA from the Bansgaon assembly constituency in 2017 and 2022 on a BJP ticket.
On 13 September 2019, he was appointed as a Member of the Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture.
