Some Lesser Known Facts About K P Sharma Oli
He was born as the eldest child of Mohan Prasad and Madhumaya Oli.
When Oli was four, his mother died of smallpox.
After his mother’s demise, Oli was raised by his grandmother, Rammaya.
Oli did his primary school education in Terathum. However, later his family migrated to the southern district of Jhapa.
Oli’s tryst with politics started in 1966 when he started opposing the party-less Panchayat System.
He is known for his pro-China stance.
On 15 February 2018, Oli became 41st Prime Minister of Nepal. It was his 2nd stint as the Prime Minister; 1st being in 2015.
In December 2017, the Left Alliance of the CPN-UML, led by Oli and CPN-Maoist Centre, led by Prachanda had secured 174Â seats in the 275-member Parliament in the historic provincial and parliamentary polls.
In September 2025, Nepal’s Gen-Z-led protests erupted over social media bans, corruption, unemployment, and inequality, which turned violent and caused many deaths and injuries.
