Having been born in Kuwait, Jyotsna moved with her family to Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates at quite a young age.
The school where she learnt to sing was 240 km away from Abu Dhabi.
She trained the Carnatic vocal style under Mangad Natesan and Hindu Classical style under Dinesh Devdas.
After she had completed her matriculation, her family moved to India.
She was honoured with the title trophy âRasna Girl 2001â in an open UAE music competition in Hindi film songs.
Though her first song in the Malayalam film industry was âValakilukkam Kettedee,â she earned the attention through âSughamanee Nilavuâ from the film Nammal.
In 2002, she was bestowed with the Asianet Best Female Playback Award for her work in the film Nammal.
She had won a number of awards in 2004, namely âAll Kerala Youth Campus Critics Award,â âKaveri Film Critics TV Award,â and âMahatma Gandhi Education Foundation Award.â
Jyotsna has given her voice in more than a hundred films which include Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu and in over two hundred albums.
She married her cousin Sreekanth, a software engineer from Kochi, in December 2010.
