| Controversy | Arrested by The ED for Alleged Involvement in Malpractices In October 2023, Joytipriya Mallick was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on allegations of participating in a ration scam and embezzling Rs. 95 crore during his tenure as the Minister of Food Supplies amid the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown in India. The ED acted on a complaint against businessman Bakibur Rahman, leading to Mallick's arrest. After questioning Rahman, the ED conducted a raid on Mallick's residence on 26 October 2023, where they confiscated various documents and stamps related to the fraudulent activities. Following Mallick's detention, several AITMC leaders, including Mamata Banerjee , criticized both the ED and the Central Government, accusing them of deliberately framing Mallick in a fabricated case. Mamta talked about it while giving an interview and said, "They are tumbling down ghee bottles, oil bottles, taking pictures of sarees, cosmetics in the name of raids… My question is why a single BJP leader’s house has not been raided? Why a single BJP dacoit house has not been raided?… The LS election is due in five months. Election in five states is going on. Now, the house of the son of a CM is raided… We do not believe in political revenge. I respect the constitutional chair. In November 2023, Abhijit Das, Mallick's former personal assistant, informed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) that Mallick had designated Das's mother and wife as directors of one of these companies. Jyotipriya Mallick is an Indian lawyer and politician. He is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITMC) and has served as the minister of Forest Affairs, Non-Conventional and Renewable Energy Sources, and Food & Supplies. In October 2023, Mallick gained attention when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on suspicions of participating in the ration scam. The incident occurred during his tenure as the head of the Department of Food & Supplies.
During the 1970s, Mallick joined the student union while attending college.
He took over the role of a director at West Bengal Green Energy Development Corporation Limited on 26 December 2007.
He emerged as a victor in the 2011 West Bengal elections by winning 86,218 votes.

In 2021, Jyotipriya Mallick won the West Bengal Assembly Election by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s Biswajit Sinha with a margin of 3,841 votes.
On 10 May 2021, Mallick was replaced as the Minister of Food & Supplies by Rathin Ghosh.
