Some Lesser Known Facts About Joy Mukherjee
Joy received Rs 200 from his uncle Ram Mukherjee to work in his film Hum Hindustani (1960); he was studying in college at that time.
Joy Mukherjee wanted to pursue a tennis career earlier, before coming into the films.

Joy’s debut film, Love in Simla (1960), was inspired by the English film ‘Jane Steps Out’ (1938).
Joy once on the film set of Love in Simla (1960) pranked his heroine, Sadhana . The prank made her upset, and she refused to continue the scene ahead. Later, with the intervention of producer S Mukerji, she agreed to come back on the sets.
Joy was labelled as the chocolate boy and was called the ‘heartthrob’ of the 1960s.
Joy was the first actor in the Hindi film cinema to start the shirtless trend in the era of 1960s.

Apart from Hindi films, Joy also worked in a Punjabi film, ‘Dupatta,’ released in 1969.
Joy’s fame began to decline in the late 1960s, and he was replaced by a new generation of actors.
While filming for Love in Tokyo (1966), Joy accidentally injured his heroine, Asha Parekh , during a scene where she suddenly fell on the ground from his lap and suffered back injuries.

Joy’s filmmaking career could not succeed much as his films flopped at the box office, which led to heavy monetary losses.
Joy Mukherjee’s film ‘Love in Bombay’ was his dream project, but he could not release it due to financial reasons. Later, his son Monjoy Mukherjee, released the film in 2013, one year after Joy’s death.
Joy’s film Chhailla Babu, released in 1977, starring Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman , was the first successful project of Joy’s filmmaking career: the film saved him from bankruptcy.

Joy worked in a TV serial titled ‘Aye Dil-e-Nadan’ in 2009, directed by his son Sujoy Mukherjee.
