Joshua started playing cricket at the age of 10 at the St Andrews Primary School.
Besides cricket, Joshua played hockey at Monkstown Hockey Club and represented Ireland’s national field hockey under-16 team.

In 2016, Joshua was used as a net bowler during Ireland’s bilateral home series against Sri Lanka.
On 5 September 2016, Joshua debuted in Twenty20 International cricket against Hong Kong. He was 16 years old at the time of his debut and became the second youngest player to have played at that level.
Joshua made headlines when he took 11 wickets, including India’s captain Ishan Kishan , at the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh.

In March 2017, Joshua opted out of the T20I series against Afghanistan due to his school exams.
Joshua was not serious about pursuing cricket professionally during his early days but a five-minute chat with Ireland’s head coach Graham Ford changed his perception of the game.

On 19 June 2018, Joshua made his List A debut for Leinster Lightning in the 2018 Inter-Provincial Cup.

Joshua was picked by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2022 Indian Premier League.
Joshua left Chennai Super Kings just two weeks after joining them as he was not satisfied with the club’s treatment and said that the club wanted to use him only as a net bowler and that he would get a chance only if someone was injured.

On 4 November 2022, Joshua took a hat-trick against New Zealand in the 2022 T20 Cricket World Cup; he became the sixth player to take a hat-trick in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Joshua took the second most T20 international wickets in 2022; he took 39 wickets in 26 matches.
In December 2022, Joshua was bought by Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League auction for the 2023 season. He became the first Irish player to receive an IPL contract.
On 31 March 2023, Joshua debuted for Gujarat Titans against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2023; he bowled 4 overs and took a wicket in the match.
