Some Lesser Known Facts About Joe Locke
Joe Locke grew up in Douglas, Isle of Man.
In high school, he and three other students submitted a petition to the government and asked them to consider allowing Syrian refugees to the Isle of Man.
When he was 12 years old, Joe Locke announced on one of his Instagram posts that he was gay. However, he later deleted the post as he was not ready to be out to the world. He made another announcement about himself when he was 15 years old.
He participated in the 2020 National Theatre Connections youth festival in London. During the same time, he was also associated with the production team of the Gaiety Theatre and the Kensington Art Centre’s youth group.
In April 2021, it was announced that Joe Locke would play the lead role of Charlie Spring in ‘Heartstopper,’ a 2022 Netflix series based on the webcomic and graphic novel by Alice Oseman.

He was selected from 10,000 actors in an open casting announcement for the role in the television web series Heartstopper.
Joe Locke has often talked about being a young gay man from the Isle of Man, relating his experiences to Charlie’s story in Heartstopper.
During the filming of the television web series Heartstopper, at the age of 17, Joe Locke played a character aged 14-15 years old who studied in an English boys’ Grammar School.
In April 2022, he shared on a live television show ‘This Morning’ that he was studying for A-level exams in politics, history, and English.
