Some Lesser Known Facts About Jeevun Sandher
Jeevun Sandher’s parents moved to England as children. his mother at age nine and his father at age fourteen.
His family expected him to follow a business career. He became interested in politics at the age of 14 and decided to pursue it instead of business.
Sandher worked as an economist at the Department for Work and Pensions, HM Treasury, and the Somaliland Ministry of Finance.
Interest in eventually working in the Treasury, aiming to continue his focus on public economic policy.
In the 2024 UK general election, Sandher was selected by the Labour Party to stand in Loughborough.
He won the Loughborough seat with a majority of almost 5,000 votes, defeating the Conservative incumbent Jane Hunt.
Jeevun Sandher and Louise Jones, both Labour MPs, got married in August 2025 after announcing their engagement last year.
Sandher began his parliamentary career with a busy schedule and initially no staff, managing over 100 emails daily.
He later hired two staff members, with plans to hire two more to handle casework and office tasks. Sandher identified flooding and bus services as key priorities for his constituency, engaging with local councils and government bodies.

Sandher proposed to Jones at home in 2024, and their engagement was revealed in the Commons by Lucy Powell. Jones was the MP for North East Derbyshire, while Sandher represented Loughborough in the House of Commons.
He also served as the Head of Economics (maternity cover) at NEF, where he led the economics team. Sandher has experience working in both academia and policy-making, generating ideas and implementing change.
He has taught in disadvantaged schools and is also active as a trade union representative. He has wide experience in both print and broadcast media on economic and political issues.
Jones announced on Facebook that she had married Sandher in August and shared details of the ceremony. She wrote that their wedding combined traditions from both heritages and marked the beginning of their future together.
Jones confirmed she would change her surname to Sandher-Jones, which will soon be reflected on her social media accounts.
The wedding celebrations lasted a week to include events from both Sandher’s and Jones’s cultural traditions.
The couple first met in January 2023, when Jones was campaigning to become a councillor in Loughborough.
