Some Lesser Known Facts About Javed Jaffrey
Javed Jaffrey is the son of veteran comedian, Jagdeep Jaffrey.
Jaffrey made a huge impact on his debut, with the film Meri Jung (1975); his portrayal of a negative character was widely appreciated.
As an anchor, his TV shows named Videocon Flashback and Timex Timepass that aired on Channel V became instant hits in the early 90’s.
Jaffrey is not only a judge but also the co-founder of India’s first dance reality show- Boogie Woogie.
The song “Mumbhai,” from the film Bombay Boys was conceived, written and choreographed by Jaffrey. It remained at the #1 spot on the charts for 6 weeks.
Jaffrey’s first wife, Zeba Bakhtiar, a Pakistani actress, was briefly married to singer Adnan Sami in 1993. Notably, this was Zeba’s third marriage.
Jaffrey also gave his voice for a number of cartoon characters like Mickey Mouse, Goofy and Don Karnage. His commentary for Pogo’s Takeshi’s Castle, a Japanese TV show, became very popular among both kids and adults.
His character of Charlie Anna in the first full-fledged Indian commercial animated film Roadside Romeo (a collaborative effort of Yash Raj Films and Disney) was highly appreciated.
To date, Jaffrey has performed at over 300 live shows and events in both India and abroad. He has even shared the stage with late singer & dancer Michael Jackson .
Jaffrey has been honoured with the life membership of International Film And Television Club of Asian Academy of Film & Television. In addition, he was also the brand ambassador of 1st India International Animation and Cartoon Film festival (2015).
He joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in March 2014 and contested in the Indian general elections from the Lucknow constituency. He finished 5th in the constituency securing only 41,429 votes.
