Some Lesser Known Facts About Jamie Smith
Jamie and his father are both ardent supporters of the football club West Ham United.
Jamie got the inspiration to pursue cricket further after watching the 2005 Ashes series. His parents were not very keen about cricket but they signed him up for a cricket camp at Sutton Cricket Club.
Jamie’s professional cricket journey began at a young age. He first represented Surrey at the Under-9 level and quickly progressed through the age-group teams.
Apart from cricket, Jamie has also played football for the club AFC Wimbledon till the age of 15.
At the age of 17, Jamie Smith made his T20 cricket debut for Surrey against Middlesex at Lord’s in the T20 Blast on 5 July 2018.
On 24 March 2019, Jamie made his first-class cricket debut for Surrey against the Marylebone Cricket Club in Dubai. He scored a century in the first innings of the match and became the ninth Surrey batsman to make a century on first-class debut. He also broke the record for the highest total by a first-class debutant in the county cricket, which had stood since 1899.

Jamie made his List-A cricket debut for Surrey against Middlesex at the Oval in the One-Day Cup on 25 April 2019.
Jamie scored his maiden first-class double-century against Gloucestershire in the County Championship in April 2022; he remained not out on 234.
Jamie Smith was part of the Surrey team that won the title in 2022 and 2023.
In January 2023, while playing for England Lions against Sri Lanka A team in an unofficial test match in Galle, he scored a century in 71 deliveries in the match. He broke the record of the fastest-ever century for the England Lions which was previously set by Luke Wright.
Jamie scored 70 runs in the first innings of his debut match in test cricket against West Indies. He scored his maiden Test century on 23 August 2024 against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Jamie scored 318 runs in his first five innings in test cricket which was the second-highest total by any wicketkeeper in Test history, and the sixth-highest of any England player.
Jamies was described as a ‘generational talent’ by the BBC Test Match Special commentator Daniel Norcross.
In 2024, after his impressive performances, Jamie was offered a central contract with England until the end of 2026.
