He made his U-19 ODI & Test debut alongside Virat Kohli and also made their First-class and Ranji debut in the same match.
He is said to be the fastest bowler India ever had.
In February 2023, on Cricbuzzâs âRise of New Indiaâ show, he recalled his lowest moment and said that it was a match against Australia in Mohali in 2013 in which he gave 30 runs in an over; James Faulkner smashed four sixes and a boundary in that over. He said,
My lowest moment was that 2013 match in Mohali against Australia. I donât know if I could ever have a moment worse than that because I wasâŚI donât know. It was very tough for me. And it wasnât because I gave away a lot of runs. The thing that hurt me the most was I was the reason behind the teamâs loss. I was dating my wife at that time and I just spoke to her and I think I just cried for almost a month. I used to call her every day and cry over the phone saying that team lost because of me.â
Ishant also talked about MS Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan who helped him recover from that âabsolute low.â Ishant added,
