Some Lesser Known Facts About Hokato Hotozhe Sema
Hokato Hotozhe Sema was born into a family of farmers.
Since his teens, he was passionate about serving in the Indian Army.
Later, he was posted as a havildar with the 9th Assam Regiment. On 14 October 2002, during a military operation Counter Infiltration Operation at LOC, he lost his leg in a landmine.
Sema then started his training in the shot put throw. He has been training at the Army Paralympic Node in Pune for a few years.
He has participated in various shot put championships like Grand Prix, World Para Championship, Asian Para Games, and Paralympics.
Hokato Hotozhe Sema in the Asian Para Games
In 2022, he became the first athlete from Nagaland to win a medal in the Asian Para Games.
He once shared that he trains for around 14 hours a week.

He is supported by the sports NGO Olympic Gold Quest.
In 2024, he was the only para-athlete from Nagaland to participate in the Paris Paralympics. In the shot put event, he bagged a bronze medal with his personal best throw of 14.65 meters.
