| Controversies | • Made An Express Train Late Hemant kept pulling the chain of Devgiri Express train again and again, resulting in its delay by an hour on 15 April 2016. It was reported that he kept pulling the chain as he demanded a different berth than what was alotted to him, but the officials refused to comply. This caused two more trains to be delayed. A senior railway officer talked about Hemant's action of delaying the train and said, "Netaji (Patil) and his men held up the train for almost an hour, which is a serious offence under the Railway Act. As an environmentalist, he loves to preserve and conserve endangered tree species.
To spread awareness among the public to stop pollution in the Godavari River, he organised a Godavari Mahotsav, which featured a 50-day cleanliness campaign of the Godavari by the volunteers.
During the Godavari Mahotasav, he also organised Lavani Dance Mahotsav and cuisine competitions to provide a platform for women to display their talents.
He is a sports lover and serves as the President of the Nanded District Archery Association.
