In 2024, she hit the headlines after she went missing under mysterious circumstances in early November.
According to sources, she got a paid photography assignment in New York City after working on several unpaid projects for years.
Thereafter, she planned her trip by selecting the places she was going to visit once she reached New York and booked a hotel room there, costing thousands of dollars.
In an interview, her family disclosed that she had no intention of leaving her home, but she had often expressed that she wanted to disconnect from modern technology. The authorities considered this detail of her as a major clue to her disappearance.
On 8 November 2024, she landed at Los Angeles International Airport and planned to catch a connecting flight to New York. However, she missed the connecting flight and requested her luggage be brought back to Los Angeles.

Surveillance footage captured her in multiple locations across Los Angeles between 8 and 11 November.
On 11 November, she was seen taking her luggage back from Los Angeles Airport. Thereafter, she sent cryptic text messages that worried her family, and later, she lost contact with them after her phone went dead.
In mid-November, the authorities found footage where she was seen crossing the U.S.-Mexico border on foot. She was seen alone in the footage, purchasing a bus ticket to a border town.
After watching the footage, the investigators believed that she crossed the border intentionally and not by force. There was no evidence of foul play or trafficking which left the investigators confused about her departure from the United States.
Thereafter, her father went to Los Angeles and searched for her with the authorities for 13 days.

On 24 November, her father was found dead by the authorities near Los Angeles International Airport and later the authorities declared it was a suicide case.
Thereafter, her family released a statement on social media regarding their grief and requested the public to continue finding Hannah.

Later, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) classified her as a “voluntary” missing person which meant she chose to leave by herself without being forced. The authorities have also requested Hannah to contact the authorities or the U.S. Embassy in Mexico.
Later, several non-profit organisations helped her family by distributing flyers and spreading awareness online to generate leads.
She is an avid lover of both cats and dogs and owns a cat named Sebastian.
