H. P. Swaroop is an Indian entrepreneur and Janata Dal (Secular) politician, who came into the limelight in May 2023 after emerging victorious in the Karnataka legislative assembly elections.
Swaroop hails from a family of politicians.
Swaroop’s father, Hassan Sanniah Prakash, was elected to the Karnataka legislative assembly four times on a ticket from Janata Dal (Secular) from the Hassan constituency.
As per his family members, Swaroop was not present during the last rites of his father after he died in 2018.
H. P. Swaroop received a ticket from the JD(S) and contested the 2020 Karnataka Gram Panchayat Elections and emerged victorious. After winning the elections, he became a member of the Zilla Panchayat, where he was appointed as the vice president.
Swaroop became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the first time after he won the 2023 Karnataka state elections on JD(U)’s ticket from the Hassan constituency; he registered a victory over his closest opponent Preetham J. Gowda, a BJP candidate, by a margin of 7,854 votes.
