Some Lesser Known Facts About Grace Dent
Grace Dent liked to write from a young age and decided to make her career in writing during her teenage years.
As a college student, she won a competition conducted by Cosmopolitan (an American fashion and entertainment magazine) and wrote several features as part of their student advisory panel.
Her professional journalism career started in 1996 as an editorial assistant at Marie Claire (a French international monthly magazine) in London.
She became a freelance journalist in 1998 and wrote regular features and columns for women’s magazines including Glamour, Cosmopolitan, and Marie Claire.
She also worked for daily newspapers and teen publications such as More! and CosmoGirl.
She wrote the popular columns, World of Lather (2001-2010) and Grace Dent’s TV-OD (2010-2012) for The Guardian (a British daily newspaper).
In 2008, she was one of the nominees for the Queen of Teen Award (voted by readers to find promising young adult or teenage book authors) and one of the judges at the Young Minds Book Awards aimed to encourage young authors.
In 2011, she was on the judging panel of the Roald Dhal Funny Prize to reward authors and illustrators using humour.
In 2011, she published a nonfiction book titled How to Leave Twitter: My Time as Queen of the Universe and Why This Must Stop.
In 2012, she signed deals with The Independent (a British online newspaper) and Evening Standard (now The London Standard).
