He began performing in theatrical plays when he was in school. He secretly travelled from his home to Mandi House in New Delhi to learn and perform in theatres; he kept it a secret from his family from class 8 to class 12.

In his childhood, he was such a big fan of actor Amitabh Bachchan that he hung big frames of Amitabh on the walls of his room.
Govind took a 16-year break after debuting in the Hindi cinema in 1982. He then made his comeback with the film ‘Ghulam’ in 1998.
He worked in the National School of Drama Repertory Company, Delhi, from 1997 to 2007.
He has made cameo appearances in many Bollywood films. In 2014, he played the role of a police constable in the film ‘PK’ (2014).
