Controversies Criticized For His Remarks On Watching Obscene Video Clips at Night: In 2015, Girish Bapat stirred controversy for his remark about watching "video clips at night." During a student's convention, he said,
"We also watch those video clips which you see on your mobiles at night. Do not think we have turned old. We are still young at heart."
Thereafter, the video featuring his remarks went viral on the internet leaving BJP red-faced. A police complaint was filed by a law student named Yogesh Kamte under section 294 of IPC for his alleged "obscene" remark at a public place. However, the police did not admit the complaint. In the aftermath of his remarks, NCP activists staged a silent demonstration in front of Bapat's residence after its leader Vandana Chavan described the comment as "uncultured and irresponsible." check sources

Later, Bapat tried to downplay the controversy while addressing the media by saying,
"It was a comment made in a lighter vein. It had no obscene connotation. However, I could have avoided it."

Viral Pictures of Girish Bapat and an 'Unidentified' Lady: In 2016, a few pictures of Girish Bapat went viral on the internet in which he was seen holding the hands of a woman party worker.

The viral photo received objectionable comments from numerous netizens which prompted the 34-year-old woman to approach the police and register the case against the unidentified person who clicked the pictures during a party programme at Wagholi, Pune. The woman seen in the photo in her statement to the police stated that Bapat was like a father figure to her and that he had held her hand to bring her in front in order to introduce her to the CM. check sources

Pune's Maple Shelters Group Row: In 2016, Sachin Agrawal, the promoter of Maple Shelters, put up advertising hoardings carrying pictures of PM Narendra Modi, Devendra Fadnavis, and Guardian Minister of Pune Girish Bapat which conveyed the impression that it was a government-sponsored scheme under PMAY. However, in a cleverly-worded disclaimer, the Group stated: "it's a Maple Shelters initiative aligned to the PMAY and not a government scheme." check sources

A case of cheating was registered against the firm for displaying a misleading advertisement for cheap housing. Bapat faced flak over the controversy when his photographs with Agrawal at a public function surfaced on social media in April 2016. check sources

However, Bapat denied the allegations, claiming that he was not aware of Agarwal's presence at the function. Reportedly, Agrawal was caught on camera by mediapersons when he was fleeing on a scooter riding pillion while the police arrived at the venue of the function, while Bapat was explaining to reporters that he had nothing to do with the controversial project.

Trolled for Committing a Faux Pas: In 2019, he was trolled for his ignorant tweet in which he congratulated DRDO scientists for shooting down a satellite "which was keeping a watch on India." He posted a tweet in Marathi which read,
"India, using anti-satellite missile, successfully shot down a live satellite at 300 km from earth in outer space, which was keeping a watch on India"
Apparently, Bapat did not realise that it was a test of an anti-satellite missile and India had shot down one of its own low-orbit satellites during Mission Shakti. He deleted the tweet after he was trashed by various netizens. check sources

Found Guilty of Restoring Licence of Blacklisted Fair Price Shop in Beed: In 2019, Bapat was accused of misusing his political position for restoring the licence of a blacklisted fair price shop in Beed, Maharashtra. The Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court set aside the order of Bapat while Justice Ghuge noted that it was the third case before the court wherein such “unsustainable orders” were passed by him. The licence of Vibhishan Mane had been cancelled by the district supply officer (DSO) in June 2016 after a number of complaints of irregularities by Mane's fair price shop in Murambi village in Ambajogai taluka of Beed were reported by the local villagers. Later, Mane approached the deputy commissioner (civil supplies) against the DSO’s order. After verifying the details, the deputy commissioner upheld the DSO’s order on 4 August 2017. However, when Mane made an appeal to Bapat, he set aside the licence revocation as well as the order of the deputy commissioner. check sources
