Some Lesser Known Facts About Giorgia Villa

  • Giorgia Villa’s mother took her to gymnastics lessons when she was very young, and Giorgia immediately liked it and started doing gymnastics at the tender age of 4.

  • In 2010, she moved to Brescia, Italy, to train professionally at the International Academy of Brixia.

  • Giorgia Villa made her international junior gymnastics debut in 2015, at the City of Jesolo Trophy, which is an annual women’s gymnastics competition held in Jesolo, Italy. She was part of Italy’s Young Dreams team in the competition.

  • In 2017, she again took part in the City of Jesolo Trophy, and she started off the competition well wth 14.433 on vault, where she showed off a good double twist; however, she was unable to finish the competition because she suffered from a torn achilles tendon during her floor exercise routine.

  • In the same year, after her recovery, Giorgia took part in the 2017 Italian National Championships, and she was placed number one in the uneven bars, which was the only event she took part in.

  • In 2018, Giorgia Villa took part in the 32nd European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships, which were held in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. She represented the Italy team in the junior category and won a gold medal in the championship.

  • In the same year, she was selected to represent Italy at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics, which were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. At the Youth Olympic Games, she qualified for every event final. She was also the first all-around champion since the Youth Olympic Games’ inception who was not from Russia.

  • Giorgia Villa was selected as Italy’s flag bearer for the closing ceremony of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

  • In 2019, Giorgia Villa made her senior debut at the 1st Italian Serie A1 Competition. She finished first in the team and all-around category and scored highest on the balance beam category and second highest on the vault category.

  • Her senior international debut was expected to be at the 2019 City of Jesolo Trophy. However, she had to withdraw at the last minute due to an injury to the middle finger of the right hand.

  • Giorgia later revealed that she broke her finger and would therefore have limited training leading up to the 8th European Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Individual Championships, which were held in Szczecin, Poland.

  • In 2019, she took part in the 2nd Italian Serie A, but she only competed in the uneven bars category, where she recorded the highest score amongst all the players.

  • In the month of April in 2019, Giorgia was selected for the team to represent Italy at the 8th European Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Individual Championship. She qualified for the all-around final in seventh place after falling off the uneven bars.

  • In the all-around final category, she managed to bag the sixth position after making mistakes on bars and floor and falling on beam, and during the balance beam final, Giorgia had another fall, which made her lose the competition.

  • In 2019, Giorgia Villa was selected for the team to represent Italy in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, which took place in Stuttgart, Germany.

  • During the team qualification stage in the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship, Giorgia had a great contribution in making Italy qualify for the team final in eighth place, which also eventually made Italy qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

  • During the 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship team final, Giorgia Villa competed on all four events, which made Italy win a bronze medal, and it was Italy’s first team medal since the 1950 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

  • In the championship, she received the fourth highest score on vault and the fifth highest score on uneven bars.

  • She injured her ankle during floor exercise, which was why she was unable to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

  • In 2021, she was affected by a back injury, which made her focus on beam and uneven bars during training in late 2021 as they were easier on her back. She was quoted saying in an interview that

    The back is a problem that cannot be cured because it is a bone problem. I can’t help it and I’m trying to manage the work based on the work and the exercises to be done.”

  • In 2022, Giorgia took part in the 34th European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championship, which was held in Munich, Germany. Her contribution towards the championship led to Italy’s first-place finish.

  • In 2024, Giorgia Villa took part in the Summer Olympics, which were held in Paris. Giorgia helped Italy qualify for the team final in second place, which resulted in Italy’s highest Olympic team placement.

  • She once stated in one of her interviews that she wants to fulfil her dream of competing at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, and will then likely retire from the sport due to ongoing back problems.

  • In 2025, Giorgia Villa took part in the first edition of the Italian reality TV show titled ‘The Couple – Una vittoria per due,’ in which she was paired up with the TV personality Laura Maddaloni .  The TV series was telecast on the Channel 5 TV channel.
