Gijs van der Most is a New York-based Dutch photographer and businessman. He is the husband of Michelle Buteau, a renowned American stand-up comedian and actress.
He worked in Amsterdam, Netherlands for many years before relocating to New York, US.
Gijs and Michelle later started living in City Island, a neighbourhood in the northeastern Bronx in New York City.
Gijs has been working as a photographer since 2008. His work has been showcased in various renowned publications such as PEOPLE, Esquire, Men’s Health, and Fast Company. His portfolio includes documentary projects like “Used Car Salesmen,” “Yard Sales,” “Sign Jugglers,” and “I ♥ Runyon Canyon.”
Together with his wife, Gijs co-created the blog “van der THIS!,” where the couple uniquely blended photography and comedy to create a miniseries. Additionally, Gijs also serves as a photo editor for the popular style, culture, and design blog www.kaufmann-mercantile.com.

In an interview, Michelle shared that she faced difficulty in getting pregnant as she was diagnosed with Prolactinoma. She had high levels of prolactin, a hormone that controls the production of breast milk and causes infertility. Consequently, she opted for IVF treatment. After going for four or five rounds of IVF and suffering miscarriages, she decided to go for surrogacy. Finally, in January 2019, Gijs and Michelle welcomed their twins, Hazel and Otis, via surrogacy.
The couple has a Lab Mastiff named Lola.
