Giacomo Gianniotti was born in a middle-class family in Rome, Italy.
Giacomo’s mother was Canadian, and his father was Italian. In 1995, his parents separated, and he moved to Canada. Giacomo spent most of his time with his mother in her hometown of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada.
Giacomo Gianniotti started his acting career as a child artist. He once revealed that he appeared in an Italian film as a little hooligan boy when he was 10 years old.
Growing up in an Italian family, he faced challenges in English speaking environment in Canada. In an interview, he once mentioned that English was his second language.
In an interview, he once mentioned that he was also bullied for his name and language by his classmates in his school in Parry Sound, Ontario.
At the age of 15, he moved to Toronto from Parry Sound, Ontario with his family.
Since his childhood, he has been interested in the arts, which greatly influenced him to pursue high school in art at the Toronto Academy of Arts.

Before moving to Canadian and Italian television and films, he initially worked in theatres to brush up his acting skills.
Giacomo built his career from some of the TV serials such as Beauty & the Beast (2012), Reign (2012), Murdoch Mysteries (2013), Selfie (2014), Backpackers (2015), and Wildcard (2024).
In an interview, Giacomo Gianniotti once mentioned that he divided his time between Toronto and Rome, working on Canadian and Italian stage, films and television.
In 2015, he was cast as Dr. Andrew DeLuca in the TV series Grey’s Anatomy. He initially appeared as a guest star in the 11th season. However, later he became a series regular cast in the 12th season. This role marked a significant breakthrough in his acting career, and he signed a contract for seven years for the show.
After he departed from the show Grey’s Anatomy (2015), he got “22:50” tattooed on his wrist, the time of death of his character.
Some of his popular films are Race (2016), Azzurro (2018), Edging (2018), Acquainted (2018), The Cuban (2019), and Luca (2021).
In 2019, he got married to his long-time girlfriend in Rome.
