| Controversies | ⢠In early 1998, he was arrested at a public bathroom in Beverly Hills, California for his lewd conduct in front of an undercover police officer. ⢠During the Iraq War period in 2004, he released the single "Shoot The Dog" as a political satire which showed cartoon versions of then US President George Bush in bed with the then UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. The song received strong criticism and he was forced to leave USA.  ⢠In 2007, he was arrested for falling asleep at the wheel of a car in the middle of London traffic. George was born to a Greek father and a Jewish mother.
Very few people know that his first band was âThe Executiveâ (1979-80), which was formed in the summer of 1979, who played their first show on 5 November 1979, at a misty Bonfire night, in a Methodist church hall in Bushey, England.Â
After his schooling, he formed the band Wham!, with his friend Andrew Ridgeley and gave their 1st U.S. hit with âWake Me Up Before You Go-Go.â
In 1986, the band split up after which he went solo and gave a hit âI Want Your Sexâ with 7 million copies sold.
In 1988, he won a Grammy Award for the song âI Knew You Were Waiting (for Me),â a duet with Aretha Franklin, and his album âFaithâ won the Grammy for album of the year.
In 1998, he announced that he was gay after he was arrested for lewd conduct in a public bathroom in Beverly Hills, California.
In 2000, he bought John Lennonâs Steinway Model Z upright piano for ÂŁ1.67m, but returned it to Liverpoolâs Beatles Story museum.Â
