Gabriel Yoshimoto was born into a Brazilian family of Japanese descent.

At the age of 8, he started swimming and later became a professional swimmer. When he was only 15 years old, he won 3 medals in the São Paulo Youth Winter Championship in 2009.
When he was 19, he moved to Mississippi, USA to pursue his college education on a scholarship.

He lived there for 6 years and worked as a lifeguard.

He continued swimming till the age of 26 and competed in various college-level swimming tournaments and won many medals. He even became the 5th best swimmer in the USA.

He made headlines in 2025 with his participation in the Big Brother Brasil 25, aired on TV Globo, as a partner with Maike Cruz . Their team name was Team Maioshi.

He was only 13 years old when he met Cruz for the first time during swimming training at the Olympic Training and Research Center and later became very close friends.
