Federica Pellegrini is an Italian swimmer who holds a world record in 200 m freestyle, in both long and short course.
Federica is a gold medalist and she won it at none other than the most recognized sports battlefield, The Olympics, in 2008 in Rome.
None before Federica had been able to swim the 400m freestyle under four minutes. She is also the only Italian swimmer who has set a world record in more than one event.
She won her first medal, a silver, when she was only 16 at theĀ 2004 Olympic Games in Athens;Ā becoming the youngest Italian athlete ever to win a medal in an individual event.
Initially, she was brought in as a relay-only swimmer for the 2003 World Championships and she competed in an individual event for the first time in Dublin during the European Championships.
She won a silver medal at the 2015 World Aquatic ChampionshipĀ second to Katie LedeckyĀ andĀ beatingĀ Missy Franklin.Ā Her performance fell short of one position to win a medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
