Some Lesser Known Facts About Faouzia
Faouzia is a Moroccan-Canadian singer, songwriter, and musician. She became popular after the release of many hit songs such as Born Without a Heart, Tears of Gold, and You Donât Even Know Me. By 2023, her songs were globally streamed more than 1 billion times.
Her family moved from Morocco to Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, Manitoba when she was only one year old and later to Carman, Manitoba, Canada.

She did not like playing sports or any outdoor activities during her school days and often used to act in plays or dramas.

When Faouzia was four years old, she saw her elder sister, Samia, play Piano and was inspired to learn Piano. When she turned five, she started writing poems and songs. She learned to play Piano at the age of six and learned Violin and Guitar. Her parents talked to her in Arabic at home, and she learned English, French, and Arabic while growing up.

In her early teenage years, she started posting videos on YouTube in which she sang her own written songs or covers of other hit songs. At the age of fifteen, she released her first song âKnock on My Door.â

Faouzia signed up with the Paradigm Talent Agency in 2017, which also used to manage many famous singers such as Coldplay , Feist, Ed Sheeran , and Sia when they were new in the music industry.

In 2017, she won the Nashville-based Unsigned Only music competition. She received $20,000 cash, a scholarship to Berklee College of Musicâs five-week summer performance program, and one-on-one mentoring sessions with executives from big record companies such as Island Records (Universal) and Sony Music Nashville after winning the competition.

One of the most breakthrough moments of her career came in 2018 when she featured in David Guettaâs song titled Battle.

Faouzia signed up with Atlantic Records in 2020 following which she regularly travelled between Toronto and California and started recording several songs each year.

She gained popularity for her songs including Minefields with American singer, John Legend, in 2020, her singles âSecretsâ in 2020 and âHeroâ in 2021, and Now or Never with French DJ, Martin Solveig, in 2023.

In 2020, she released her first EP (Extended Play) titled âStrippedâ which had 6 songs, and in 2022, her second EP titled âCitizensâ came out which had her viral hit song âRIP, Love.â

She did a worldwide tour in 2022, doing live concerts in several cities including Toronto, London, Dubai, Paris, California, and New York. She later said that she would release her debut album in 2024.

Faouzia has described her music as emotional and intense. Themes of Faouziaâs songs range from pop, R&B, synth-pop, and acoustic pop. Reportedly, her voice lies in the coloratura mezzo-soprano vocal range that spans from C⯠3 to GâŻ5 in mixed voice and A6 in whistle tones.
She sings most of her songs in English language and sometimes in French and Arabic languages. According to her fans, her English songs often include Arabic tonalities.
She credited her parents and sisters as her biggest inspiration behind the reason to pursue a music career. In her early career, she wrote lyrics inspired by people around her; however, she later started writing lyrics based on her personal experiences.

Faouzia grew up listening to various pop singers such as Rihanna , Lady Gaga , Ariana Grande, RosalĂa, BeyoncĂŠ , Sia, Adele , Stromae, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. As a songwriter, she was mainly influenced by Rihanna, BeyoncĂŠ, Lady Gaga, and Sia. Her favourite Arabic musicians are Umm Kulthum and Fairuz, and she was also inspired by Assala Nasri and Khaled. She listened to composers Chopin, Bach, and Mozart when she started composing music.

Her song âMinefield,â released in 2020, was her first Top 10 entry on the US iTunes charts, number 1 on the French pop charts, number 2 on the all-genre charts, and number 2 on the French airplay charts; the song was globally streamed more than 100 million times.

In an interview, she revealed that whenever her fans tell her that they get motivated or inspired by her songs, she feels very happy and said,
My favorite thing is hearing that one of my songs helped someone feel motivated or empowered, or even helped them to have a good cryâwhich sometimes is all you need. I really believe that immersing yourself in music can help you through the tough times in life, and I always hope that my songs can do that for everyone.â
She has graced the cover of several popular magazines such as Vogue Arabia, Marie Claire Arabia, Cosmopolitan Middle East, and Rolling Stone.
