His father Tahir Hussain was from Bhopal while his mother was from Banaras but his ancestors were from Shahabad (near Hardoi), Uttar Pradesh.
He is from freedom fighters family background and he is a descendant of former President of India Dr. Zakir Hussain.
He started his acting career in 1969 from the movie âPyar Ka Mausamâ.Â
In 1990, he also worked as a director and co-producer of the movie âTum Mere Hoâ.Â
