Some Lesser Known Facts About Faaiz Anwar
Faaiz Anwar is an Indian poet and lyricist. He is mainly known for writing the title track of the film âDil Hai Ke Manta Nahiâ (1991). In 2023, he made an appearance in the popular celebrity talk show called âThe Kapil Sharma Show,â which aired on Sony TV.
Since his childhood, he possessed a profound passion for writing poetry. At a very young age, he began writing âshayriâ and âghazalsâ that he got published in local newspapers and magazines.
In 1988, he decided to shift from Kanpur to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming a lyricist.
In an interview, he recounted an interesting story about how he entered the film industry. He said that in the 1980s, the renowned music director RD Burman was in search of a lyricist for one of his filmâs songs but couldnât find the right person for the project. Then, he decided to reach out to Anwar after reading one of Anwarâs interviews in the newspaper. Later, Burman reached out to Anwar and invited him to his house. During their meeting, Burman asked him to listen to a musical tone that Burman had prepared for the song and requested him to write a song for it. Right then and there, Anwar wrote the lyrics of the song âTum Karo Vaadaâ within 15-20 minutes. RD Burman was extremely impressed by Anwarâs talent and selected the song for the title track of the film âTum Karo Vaadaâ (1993). Burman further requested him to write 2 more songs for the film. However, the film âTum Karo Vaadaâ got delayed and was released in 1993 after Anwarâs first released song âDil Hai Ki Manta Nahiâ (1991).
His debut song âDil Hai Ke Manta Nahiâ achieved tremendous success in the music industry and remained on top of the popular radio program Cibaca Geetmala for nearly two years.

In an interview, Anwar revealed how he got the chance to write the title track of the film âDil Hai Ke Manta Nahiâ (1991). He recounted that while Mahesh Bhatt was working on the film âAashiquiâ (1990), he had all the songs ready except for the last song. Even after approaching many well-known lyricists, Bhatt couldnât find the right one. Thatâs when he approached Faaiz Anwaar and asked him to write the lyrics for the song. Anwar, right on the spot, wrote the lyrics for the song âDil Hai Ke Manta Nahinâ within 40 minutes. When Bhatt heard the song, he was highly impressed and decided to include it as the last song in the film âAashiqui.â However, for some reason, the song was later shifted from âAashiquiâ and became the title track for another film, âDil Hai Ke Manta Nahiâ (1991).
In 1993, he wrote six songs for the film âJaanam.â

After writing the songs for Udit Narayan âs album âI Love Youâ (1997), Anwar wrote the songs for the album âDeewanaâ (1999). Initially, Kumar Sanu was chosen as the vocalist for the album, but later, he was replaced by Sonu Nigam . The album went on to achieve tremendous success, marking the breakthrough of the singerâs career.

Anwar has also written songs for several other albums, such as âJaan,â âYaad,â âAashiqui,â âLove Is Life,â âTujhse Pyar Hai,â and âSitara.â
In 2007, he wrote the song âAaoge Jab Tumâ for the Bollywood film âJab We Met.â The song was well received by the audience.
The song âTere Mast Mast Do Nainâ that he wrote for the film âDabangg,â turned out to be a massive hit, reigning over the music, radio, and streaming charts for a long time.

In 2012, he wrote the lyrics of the song âChikni Kamar Pe Teriâ and âChamak Challo Chel Chabeliâ for the film âRowdy Rathoreâ (2012).
Anwar has contributed his songwriting skills to numerous films, such as âImtihaanâ (1994), âSurakshaaâ (1995), âYeh Zindagi Ka Safarâ (2001), âChand Bujh Gayaâ (2005), âVeerey Ki Weddingâ (2018).
In an interview, Anwar expressed his perspective on contemporary songs and characterised them as lacking poetic and philosophical depth. However, admitted that, as a lyricist, he often finds himself compelled to write such songs due to the demands of film producers. He mentioned the song âChikni Kamar Pe Teri,â which he penned for the film âRowdy Rathoreâ (2012) falling in the same category. While talking about it in the interview, he said,
It is true that its style is not poetic or philosophical, but it has to be done by looking at the time.â
In an interview, he was questioned about whether his songs had ever been plagiarized. In response, he clarified that his songs were not stolen but rather sold by him during a period of financial struggle in his life. He said,
It was not stolen, but I sold my songs and sold them for a very good price. For one song, I charged the equivalent of ten songs. If you ask for whom did it, I will not tell. Money was my need and I cannot say that my compulsion was taken advantage of. I donât have any complaints.â
