Esther Duflo is a French Economist. She won the 2019 Nobel Prize for Economics along with Micheal Kremer and Abhijit Banerjee . Esther is married to Abhijit Banerjee.

When she was pursuing her undergraduate, she was interested in history. In her second year of college, she considered a career in civil service or politics.

In 1993, she spent 10 months in Moscow. She taught French and worked on a history thesis that described- “How the Soviet Union had used the big construction sites, like the Stalingrad Tractor Factory, for propaganda, and how propaganda requirements changed the actual shape of the projects.”
When she finished her PhD in 1999, she was immediately hired by MIT as an assistant professor.
She was promoted to Associate Professor in 2002.
She holds the record of being the youngest person to get a Tenured position at a university at the age of 29.

Esther is also the founding editor of the American Economic Journal: “Applied Economics”.
Her book “Poor Economics” received worldwide critical acclaim. She also received “The Goldman Sachs Business Book of the Year Award.”
In 2019, she became the second woman to win a Nobel Prize in Economics. She is also the youngest woman ever to win a Nobel Prize.
