She posted videos where she lip-synced to narco-corridos, which are Mexican songs about drug cartels.
Her videos often suggested that her husband could be part of a cartel.
In one video, Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay showed the words âAdvantages of having a narco boyfriendâ and posed with a Gucci bag. However, there was no proof that Garibay or her husband was in a drug cartel.
Reportedly, her husband sold cars and grew tomatoes in Michoacan, which could have made him a target for gangs.
In 2024, Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay, with her family, shifted from Michoacan to Guadalajara for work opportunities.
On 22 August 2025, four bodies were found wrapped in plastic inside a pickup truck, an old grey Ford Ranger, in the San Andrés area of Guadalajara, Mexico. Prosecutor Alfonso Gutierrez Santillan shared this information at a press meeting.

On 2 September 2025, the bodies were identified as Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay, along with her husband, Roberto Carlos Gil Licea, son Gael Santiago, and daughter Regina.
Mexican news outlet El Financiero claimed that Roberto Carlos Gil Licea was thought to be the main target of the killing.
During the investigations, police watched security videos to follow where the truck went. They found the truck at a local auto repair shop.
At the shop, there were blood marks, used bullets, and signs showing that the four people might have been killed there.
According to a noted media house, Latin Times, the bodies were then moved to a different place. Prosecutor Santillan claimed in the media,
While the forensic results are not yet in, ballistic and blood evidence almost certainly confirm they were murdered at that location.â
Three men who worked at the mechanic shop where the truck with the bodies was left were arrested, but soon they were released because there was not enough proof.
Prosecutor Blanca Trujillo said in the media that the attackers waited over two hours before attacking. This indicated that the attack was carefully planned.
The police stated that it was not clear if the attack was revenge for the killing of Garibay and her family.
As of August 2025, she had more than 44,000 followers on TikTok.
