Some Lesser Known Facts About Ebrahim Raisi
When Raisi was five years old, Raisi’s father passed away. When he became 15 years old, he entered Qom Seminary.
Ebrahim Raisi was an Iranian Cleric and the custodian and chairman of Astan Quds Razavi (a wealthy and powerful foundation or bonyad).
In the 1980s and 90s, Raisi was also Prosecutor and Deputy Prosecutor of Tehran.
He served as Deputy Chief Justice of Iran from 2004 to 2014.
In 2006 for the first time, he was elected to Assembly of Experts from South Khorasan Province.
From 2014 to 2016, he has served as Attorney General of Iran.
Raisi is the son-in-law of Ahmad Alamolhoda, Imam Reza shrine.
Raisi was named as one of the four persons involved in the 1988 executions by Hussein-Ali Montazeri.
He was one of the supporters of Sex segregation. He said in a 2014 interview,
I think this is a good move because the majority of women do a better job in a totally relaxed atmosphere and fit are required.”
To win the 2017 Presidential Election, Raisi promised to triple the monthly state benefits to tackle corruption and create six million jobs.
His wife is Associate Professor at Tehran’s Shahid Beheshti University and is also President of the University’s Institute of Fundamental Studies of Science and Technology.
On 19 May 2024, he was killed after his helicopter crashed in poor weather in the mountains near the Azerbaijan border. On 20 May 2024, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced five days of mourning in the country over Raisi’s demise.
