Some Lesser Known Facts About Dub Sharma
Dub was initially a harmonium player. It was after, one of his brothers living in Delhi, introduced him to music-making computer software. At the age of 14, he began making computer music.
He began his professional music career in 2008. He started by working as a ghost producer and also worked for commercials.
Later, he began to produce music for travel and music shows like Sound Trek (2016) and The Dewarists (2017).
Apart from “Vyuh” (2013), his first EP, he has two more EPs, Cues (2016) and Showcase (2017).
In 2016, he released a song titled “Azadi,” which sampled the speech of the JNU student activist Kanhaiya Kumar . The track was followed by a blog post, ‘I Hope My Song Dies’ by Dub. The track became very controversial and drew him to the criticism of the many. Talking about the track, he said,
I am just an artiste. I think about different things and issues prevailing in society while composing the songs. But when the song reaches the public domain, everyone interprets in their own way.”
In 2017, he composed the music for the talk show by Kunal Kamra called “Shut Up Ya Kunal.”
Music Director, Ankur Tewari contacted Dub through email, after hearing ‘Azadi’ (2016) track, and he was offered to work in the film “Gully Boy,” which marked Dub’s Bollywood Debut. Reminiscing about the moments, he said,
It sounded absolutely interesting to me but honestly, I had no idea how far it could go. Then I met Ankur Tewari and (Gully Boy director) Zoya Akhtar for a listening session. I played all that I had in works at that time and that opened way for some more tracks.”
Apart from being a musical artist, he is also a writer. He has his own blog in medium and has also written articles on the newspapers like Tribune.
He owns a Youtube channel in which, he posts tracks of viral speeches or dialogues by people.
