In an interview, he said that he always aspired to become a wrestler. He purchased a book titled “Inside Secrets on How You Can Enter the Exciting World of Pro Wrestling” by Dennis Brent and Percy Pringle to understand the basics of wrestling.
At the age of 15, his mom took him to the Portsmouth, which is 12 hours away from where he lived. He started getting his training at Frontier Wrestling Alliance’s Academy.

He believes, that William Regal and Dave Finlay were the men who mold him into a wrestler. Drew is influenced by both of them and they both are also his best friends.
Before entering into the wrestling world, he was a footballer and used to play football at Prestwick Boys club for many seasons.
He made his WWE debut in 2006 on Smackdown Live brand. But he had to switch continuously between Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) and Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). Later, On 28 August 2009, he re-debuted on Smackdown Live attacking R-Truth.
In WWE, his ring name is Drew McIntyre while outside the WWE, he wrestles with the name Drew Galloway.
On 25 September 2009, WWE chairman Vince McMahon called him as the “Future World Champion” and he got the title “The Chosen One.”
He was quite personal with WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon and learned a lot of things from him.
