Some Lesser Known Facts About Dr Sankarasubramanian K
Dr Sankarasubramanian K is an Indian scientist, who is a senior scientist at ISRO. In 2023, he became the Principal Scientist for ISRO’s first solar mission ‘Aditya-L1 Mission’ for doing research on the sun.
He got interested in science and math when he was young.
When he was studying for his PhD at Bangalore University, he wrote his thesis about the Sun’s magnetic fields.
In 2023, he worked as a senior scientist in the field of solar research at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru. At URSC, he was in charge of the Space Astronomy Group (SAG), which makes scientific equipment for ISRO’s missions, such as Aditya-L1 and XPoSat.
Some of the research fields of his interest are the solar magnetic field, optics, and the tools used for studying them.
He has played a major role in many important space missions by ISRO, like AstroSat, Chandrayaan-1, and Chandrayaan-2.
He was chosen as the principal investigator for an X-ray tool on India’s first solar exploration mission, ‘Aditya-L1.’
Dr Sankarasubramanian K has written over 100 research papers in scientific journals, and this has helped in studying the Sun, like its magnetic field, outer atmosphere (corona), and how it affects our planet’s climate.
He is one of the scientists who led a team called the Aditya-L1 Science Working Group. On 2 September 2023, Aditya L1 was successfully launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
He is committed to enhancing space programs and doing advanced research in solar physics in India. Many young scientists and engineers do their solar studies under his mentorship and training.
