Some Lesser Known Facts About Douglas Emhoff
He lived in Matawan and Old Bridge Township, New Jersey from 1969 to 1981.
He became a bar mitzvah (Jewish coming-of-age ceremony) in 1977 at Temple Shalom, a Reform synagogue in Aberdeen Township.
In 1978, he attended a Jewish summer camp, Camp Cedar Lake in Milford, Pennsylvania. He was voted as the most athletic person in his division at the camp.

He specialises in entertainment litigation and intellectual property.
He started his career as an associate with Pillsbury Winthrop’s litigation group.
He has worked as the managing director of the West Coast offices of Venable LLP, an American law firm.
In the late 1990s, he joined the boutique law firm, Belin Rawlings & Badal, Los Angeles.
At the beginning of his career, he represented Hollywood Video, a video rental chain in an accounting dispute against Fox Broadcasting Company. The case earned him fame and helped him to become a representative for several production companies.
He started his own Beverly Hills law firm in 2000 which was acquired by Venable LLP in 2006. He then worked as the managing director of the West Coast offices of Venable LLP.
In 2009, he represented Taco Bell’s former advertising agency and won one of his career’s most high-profile cases.
Douglas Emhoff met his wife, Kamala Harris, in 2013 on a blind date, set up by one of their mutual friends, Chrisette Hudlin, a public relations consultant.
After their first date, Doug wrote an e-mail to Kamala, in which he wrote all of his available dates for the next few months. Confessing his love for her, he wrote,
I’m too old to play games or hide the ball. I really like you, and I want to see if we can make this work.”
They married a year later in 2014 in a civil ceremony officiated by Kamala’s sister, Maya Harris.
He became a partner at DLA Piper law firm in 2017.
As a partner to the DLA Piper, he represented the real estate broker, Mauricio Umansky, known for appearing on the TV show, ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.’
Douglas Emhoff became a visiting professor at the Georgetown University Law Center, Washington, D.C. in January 2020. He teaches a two-credit course for the spring semester, ‘Entertainment Law Disputes.’
In 2020, he left DLA Piper to avoid a conflict of interest after his wife, Kamala Harris, decided to become the running mate of the presidential candidate, Joe Biden.
He shot the famous video of Kamala Harris calling Joe Biden and exclaiming ‘Joe, we did it!’ after Joe Biden had won the election in 2020.
He became America’s first Second Gentleman (spouse of the vice president) after his wife, Kamala Harris, became the vice president of the United States in 2021.
