Douglas Brunt has been interested in history since childhood. His father served as a doctor in the US Navy and often told him stories about the world wars.

After completing his education, he worked for a financial firm before joining Booz Allen Hamilton as a consultant. He later worked for a venture capital firm.
In 2001, he started working at an internet security firm, Authentium, Inc. He became the President & CEO of the firm before selling the firm to Commtouch in 2011.
In 2006, he met the famous news reporter Megyn Kelly on a blind date.
They later began their long-term relationship before breaking up once on New Year’s Eve in 2007 but realized that they couldn’t live without each other. Hence, they got into a relationship again and Brunt proposed to her in September 2007.
While he was happy with the work, he wasn’t interested in the corporate discussions of the boardroom and wanted to pursue an alternate career. He was already writing a novel; hence, he decided to become a novelist.
His first novel, Ghosts of Manhattan, became a New York Times bestselling book.
He later released many fictional and non-fictional novels including The Means (2014), Trophy Son (2017), and The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel (2023).

He got interested in Rudolf Diesel while repairing an old boat he had purchased. He was told that gasoline engines caused most boat fires so he looked into the history of the diesel engine. That’s when he came to know that Rudolf Diesel disappeared in 1913.
In October 2022, he partnered with SiriusXM and started his podcast named Dedicated with Doug Brunt.

The show gained popularity for its high-profile guests (mostly writers) such as James Patterson, Steve Forbes, and David Duchovny.
His unique style of enjoying the favourite mocktail of his guests also became a huge hit among his fans.
