Dileep Shankar was interested in drawing and other cultural activities from his school days.

He discontinued his medical education at the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, to pursue his interest in the arts.
He secured record-high points in the Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) Youth Festival, where he received the Kalaprathibha title.
He played popular characters in various Malayalam television series, including Ammayariyathe (2020-2023) as Adv. Peter Tharkan on Asianet, Sundari (2021-2024) as Krishnan on Surya TV, and Panchagni (2024) as Chandrasenan on Flowers TV.

He appeared as Joppan in Chaappa Kurishu (2011) and North 24 Kaatham (2013) as S. I Prathyumnan.

He was reportedly suffering from a liver ailment and on 29 December 2024, he was found dead in his hotel room in Thiruvananthapuram where he was staying for his work. His last rites were conducted in his hometown of Chittoor, Kochi.
