Controversy Penalised for His Actions in IPL
During a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants on 19 May 2025, Rathi entered into an altercation with Abhishek Sharma
after Rathi celebrated his dismissal with his signature "notebook celebration," which offended Sharma. Rathi had been warned and penalised twice before for using the same offensive gesture. For his actions, the BCCI and the governing body of the IPL imposed a 50 per cent loss of match fees as well as a suspension from one match on Rathi. Sharma was levied a 25 per cent penalty on his match fees.
