Diana belongs to a wealthy English family, which is involved in pig farming.
She spent her early childhood at the Quarwood House in Gloucestershire.
Diana’s parents parted ways when she was very young.
After completing her schooling in England, she enrolled at the University of Oxford, where she joined the university’s ice hockey team. She was also a member of Oxford’s skating and shooting club.

It was during her time at Oxford that she met Mark Carney; they soon began dating each other. After dating one another for some time, the couple got married in 1994.
At the University of Oxford, Diana specialised in Third World development.
She studied at the University of Pennsylvania through the Thouron Scholarship program.
Thereafter, the couple moved to Toronto, Canada, where they lived for a short while. They then shifted to Ottawa and after a few years, they relocated to London, where her husband, Mark, served as the Governor of the Bank of England.
In 1994, she was chosen as a Research Associate and a Research Fellow at the Overseas Development Institute in London; she served in the institute till 1998.
In 1998, she joined the UK Department for International Development (DFID), where she assisted the British government in formulating policies to tackle the rising poverty. As a part of the DFID, she has also served in Eastern and Southern Africa, where she worked closely with various governments.
She was then appointed as the Senior Advisor at Eurasia Group Ltd. She has also served as a Senior Advisor at BeyondNetZero and Helios Climate.

Diana is also considered to be a climate policy expert. According to her, she became enthusiastic about the subject after she lived in Africa and saw the ill effects of climate change on the environment.
In 2012, she supported the anti-banking Occupy movement and called the British banking structure “rotten and inadequate.”
In 2020, following his retirement from the post, Diana and Mark moved back to Canada.
She is a fellow at the Canada-based Balsillie School of International Affairs (BSIA).
Diana has also written numerous economics-related articles for the magazine, Corporate Knights.
She has also worked as a Strategic Adviser in Willis Towers Watson’s Climate and Resilience Hub.
Diana Fox Carney is a philanthropist and has served as a board member with several international NGOs, including ClientEarth, Save the Children (UK), and the Shell Foundation.
In 2022, she was invited by The Malburian Club to talk about the challenges of climate change. She gave a speech on the topic, “Climate Change: Progress to Date and Challenges Ahead.”
She later joined Pi Capital as the executive director.
Diana Fox has also served as Vice President of Research at Canada 2020, a think tank. There, she worked mostly on energy/environment issues as well as problems around income inequality.
She has also served as the ambassador of the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
She also runs a website named Eco Products that Work where she sells eco-friendly products to its customers all around the world.
In January 2025, it was revealed that Eurasia Group, where Diana works, received a $446,210 contract from the Canadian government for “geopolitical research, analysis, and insights” for Natural Resources Canada.
She is an avid coffee and tea lover. She likes to begin her day by consuming coffee. She also has a kitchen garden, where she likes to work in her free time. She likes growing different types of flowers in it.
