Some Lesser Known Facts About Devajit Saikia
Devajit Saikia liked cricket and started playing in his childhood.
In 1984, he played for Assam in the CK Nayudu Trophy for school cricket in Lucknow.

On his Vijay Merchant Trophy debut for Assam under-15 at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur, he scored 55 runs.
In the Under-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in 1987, he represented Assam and scored a century against Orissa in Kolkata.

He played for Assam Under-19 in the Cooch Behar Trophy between 1986 and 1989.
He was a member of the East Zone team, along with Sourav Ganguly and Ranjib Biswal, who won the 1987-1988 Vijay Hazare Trophy in Kanpur.
He played under Maninder Singh in the Wills Trophy (now defunct).
He also played 4 matches in the Ranji Trophy in 1991 for Assam.

At the age of 21, he quit cricket to focus on his studies.

From 1989 to 1991, he also worked in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) after getting a job through sports quota employment.
He later found a job through sports quota at the Reserve Bank of India (Guwahati) from 1991 to 1996.

In December 1997, he enrolled as a lawyer under the Bar Council of Assam and began his legal practice.

As a private lawyer, he contested most cases related to writ jurisdiction, criminal law and insurance law.
In 2005, as a government lawyer for the Assam government, he also represented finance, taxation, health, and education cases.

In 2009, he played for the Indian Lawyers Team in the Lawyers’ World Cup held in Cambridge and London but lost to Australia in the final. He later played in the Lawyers’ World Cup in 2015-2016 and 2017-2018.

He is considered close to Himanta Biswa Sarma , the serving Assam chief minister. They have held various positions in different cricket bodies including Gauhati Town Club (GTC) and Assam Cricket Association (ACA).

In the decade of 2000s and 2010s, as a board member of the Gauhati Town Club (GTC), he opened several academies for chess, boxing, football, and cricket.

In 2014, he resigned from the Additional Advocate General of Assam after some disputes with then-Assam CM Tarun Gogoi .
As an ACA member, his biggest achievement was to complete the construction of the ACA Stadium in Barsapara and host the first T20 match between India and Australia on 10 October 2017.

He also established many women’s cricket tournaments including the Kanaklata Barua Trophy.
On 21 May 2021, he created history by becoming the youngest person to become the Advocate General of Assam at the age of 52 years and one month.

In May 2023, he helped frame a new ACA constitution in 2 months and implemented it.
He has also changed the age-group structure for football in Assam along with many other tournaments such as the Bordoloi Trophy.

He is very fond of bike riding and has driven his bike through many areas of France, Thailand, Ladakh, and Route 66 in the USA on his bike.

He has also done many adventurous trips including a trip to the North Pole in 2017 and completing treks to the Everest Base Camp in 2019 and Annapurna Base Camp, Nepal in 2022.
