Some Lesser Known Facts About Deepa Malik
Deepa Malik is a well-known para-athlete of India. She is the Khel Ratna, Padma Shri, and an Arjuna Awardee.
She was born like a normal child, but at the age of 5, she was diagnosed with spine tumour; which was treated for three years.

In the year 1999, she was again diagnosed with a spinal tumour and then walking became impossible for her. The spinal tumour was operated by conducting 3 surgeries and 183 stitches. This made her lower body paralysed.
When she was 36 years old, she decided to pursue a career in sports.
She has participated in various adventure sports and has won accolades for those.
Deepa is an enthusiastic motor-biker and has covered 1700 km drive in 8-days and that too in sub-zero temperatures.

GoSports Foundation supports her through their Para Champions Program.
She became the first physically disabled person in India to receive an official rally license from the Federation Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI).
In 2008, she swam against the current in the river Yamuna (1 km), for which she was registered in the Limca Book of Records.
Deepa was a member of the working group in the formulation of the 12th five-year plan (2012-2017) on Physical Education & Sports.
Later, she became the brand ambassador for NMDC ‘Clean India’ or ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.’
