  • Deepa Malik is a well-known para-athlete of India. She is the Khel Ratna, Padma Shri, and an Arjuna Awardee.

  • She was born like a normal child, but at the age of 5, she was diagnosed with spine tumour; which was treated for three years.

  • In the year 1999, she was again diagnosed with a spinal tumour and then walking became impossible for her. The spinal tumour was operated by conducting 3 surgeries and 183 stitches. This made her lower body paralysed.

  • When she was 36 years old, she decided to pursue a career in sports.

  • She has participated in various adventure sports and has won accolades for those.

  • Deepa is an enthusiastic motor-biker and has covered 1700 km drive in 8-days and that too in sub-zero temperatures.
