Some Lesser Known Facts About David Wiese
David started playing cricket at the age of nine.
David wanted to become a cricketer since childhood, but his parents wanted him to focus more on academics.
David has 2 pet dogs named Meatloaf and Gizmo.

David joined Harry Shapiro’s Cricket Institute at a young age to get specialized training in cricket as his hometown lacked basic cricket facilities.
David wanted to become a spinner during his early days but became a pacer as his physical strength grew with time.
David made his debut in domestic cricket for the Easterns in the 2005–06 SAA Provincial Cup;  he scored 526 runs and took 26 wickets in nine matches.
David was the highest wicket-taker in the 2009 edition of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes while playing for South Africa.
David came into the limelight when he scored 61 runs off just 28 balls including six sixes for the Titans against Sydney Sixers in the semifinals of the 2012 Champions League Twenty20.

In 2013, David was included in the South African T20I squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.
David made headlines when a few reports claimed that he bowled a delivery of 173.8 kph in a match against the Knights in the 2016–17 CSA T20 Challenge tournament. Later, it was confirmed that it happened due to a technical glitch.
David took 16 wickets in his debut IPL season in 2015 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

David signed the Kolpak deal in 2017 while playing for the Sussex County Cricket Club in the 2016 T20 Blast tournament. Earlier, he was occupying the spot of an overseas player, but after signing the Kolpak deal, he got exempted from the provision of an overseas player.

David played for South Africa from 2013 to 2016, where he played 6 ODIs and 20 T20 international matches. Later, he made his debut for Namibia in October 2021 after the collapse of the Kolpak deal due to Brexit. His father was born in Namibia which made David eligible to play for Namibia.

David was awarded the man of the match in Namibia’s first-ever win in an ICC tournament when they defeated the Netherlands by 6 wickets during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Abu Dhabi on 20 October 2021.

David played an important role in Namibia’s historic campaign at the 2021 ICC World Twenty20 competition where they reached the Super 12 stage.

Due to his exceptional performances in the 2021 ICC World Twenty20 competition, David was nominated for the ICC Player of the Month along with Shakib Al Hasan and Asif Ali in October 2021.
On 6 March 2022, David made his ODI debut for Namibia against Oman, he also became the 15th cricketer to represent two international teams in ODIs after he played for South Africa.

David became the first Namibia cricketer to play in IPL when he played against Chennai Super Kings at the Eden Gardens for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2023.
