David Cameron is a descendant of King William IV.
He was the 12th prime minister to take office during Queen Elizabeth IIās reign.
He was the first Conservative (Tory) Prime Minister since John Major in 1997.
David Cameron is known for his economically liberal and socially liberal policies.
His father, Ian, was born with both legs deformed. Ian died in 2010. David often called his father a hero, role model, and inspiration. Cameron once talked about his fatherās leg condition and said,
Sitting down he looked six foot three, standing up he was five foot eight. But he never let it affect him in any way.ā

Cameronās father married his mother, Mary Mount, the daughter of a Berkshire County family, in 1962.
After he spent the first three years of his life in Kensington and Chelsea, the family moved to an old rectory near Newbury, in Berkshire in 1966.
His great-great-grandfather, Alexander Geddes, built the Blairmore.
He did his schooling at two private schools. Due to his good marks, he was promoted to the top class at Heatherdown School in Winkfield two years earlier.

Soon after entering Eton College, he was caught smoking cannabis and was fined.
While studying at Eton, he sprained his ankle dancing to bagpipes on a school trip to Rome.
He left Eton in 1984 and started working as a researcher for Tim Rathbone, then Conservative MP for Lewes.
His father later employed him as a āship jumperā in Hong Kong, where he worked for three months.
While he was returning from Hong Kong, two KGB agents reportedly approached him.
He later attended Brasenose College, Oxford, where his tutor Vernon Bogdanor described him as āone of the ablestā students he had taught.

After graduating from Oxford, Cameron joined the Conservative Research department, where he worked for Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and her successor John Major.
He later worked at the Treasury and Home Office as a special adviser.
In 1994, he joined the media company Carlton Communications, where he worked as Head of corporate affairs for seven years.
In 2001, he became MP for Witney and within four years he was elected as Conservative Party Leader.
On 11 May 2010, during the global financial crisis, he became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, making him the youngest Prime Minister to have taken office since 1812.
