Cynthia Erivo’s parents were Nigerian immigrants.
When the Nigerian Civil War started, Cynthia’s mother, Edith, was only 15. Though she was not officially a refugee, she and her family had to leave their home and move from place to place to stay safe.
Cynthia’s parents moved to the UK in their early twenties but separated when she was very young. After that, she and her younger sister were raised by their mother.
