Colin Ingram started playing cricket at the age of 14 for the school team and the Eastern Province team.

During his college days, he joined the Woodridge College cricket team and played for them for five years. Among those years, he captained the team for three years.
In 2004, he got a scholarship to study at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
In the same year, Colin Ingram made his first-class debut for Free State against Border at Bloemfontein, South Africa.
He also represented South Africa in 2004 U-19 Cricket World Cup, which was held in Bangladesh.
In October 2010, he made his T20I debut for South Africa against Zimbabwe at Bloemfontein, South Africa.
In the same month, Colin made his ODI debut for South Africa against Zimbabwe at Bloemfontein, South Africa. He made a century in his first match and became the first South African to make a century in his debut.
In 2011, he was named in the South Africa squad to play in Cricket World Cup.
In the same year, Delhi Daredevils (DD) bought him at a base price of $100,000 for the 2011 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. He scored just 21 runs in three matches.

In 2014, Colin Ingram was invited by Somerset to play as an overseas player for them on the behalf of Alviro Petersen but, he didn’t play for them as a full-time player.
Later, he signed a three-year contract to play county cricket for Glamorgan. He joined it through the Koplak deal, which means he was not eligible to play for his country, South Africa for those years.

In 2016, he scored 502 runs in 14 innings in the NatWest T20 Blast, which includes 42 fours and 29 sixes.
In August 2017, Adelaide Strikers signed him for the 2017-18 Big Bash League (BBL). It was the first time when Adelaide Strikers won the Big Bash League. He also captained several matches in that tournament on the behalf of Travis Head.
Later, Colin has been appointed as the captain for the upcoming seasons of BBL.
In 2018, he was the part of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) as a player of Karachi Kings team.

In the same year, he was also the part of the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) as a player of Kabul Zwanan.
Colin Ingram loves to play against Pakistan and has made several centuries against them.
In December 2018, Delhi Capitals bought him at a price of ₹6.4 crore for the 2019 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.
